In advance of the event, we had the chance to put a few questions to Peter which we think are relevant to many of our client organisations and candidates:
- What do you think is the level of understanding by senior business people about the risk and opportunities presented by
growing environmental pressures?
I believe there is growing awareness of all issues green. Awareness has sadly not yet translated itself into action, in many cases. I say "sadly" because it is an enormous issue which we face. I think it’s also an enormous opportunity for business. Recent rises in the price of oil are putting green issues higher up the agenda. Customers and suppliers are also creating more pressure. Companies such as Orange ask for your environmental policy if you wish to become a supplier. Walmart are asking their suppliers to calculate and publish their Carbon Footprint.
- What question do you think we should be asking senior executives about the green credentials of their organisations?
What is your company's carbon footprint and what are you doing to reduce and offset it. If they can't give a clear answer, they need to ensure they are able to.
- How can Global trees help Scottish business leaders improve their organisation's performance?
We can give simple practical advice. Individuals and business can calculate their footprint simply on our web site www.globaltrees.co.uk. More information can also be found at www.go-neutral.com.
